Dobrnič Local Community
The village chapel is an open-type structure with a column and a half-column supporting a triangular pediment with a small niche. It was built of stone and brick in the second half of the 19th century. A contemporary wooden crucifix is mounted in the altar niche.
Zajc's wine cottage is a single-room, single-storey building from the second half of the 19th century, built of stone and plastered. The south gable is built as a bond wall, while the north gable holds an entrance to the attic, once used for storing vine stakes.
Glavič's wine cottage, built in 1884, is partly dug into the hillside with an above-ground cellar; it is built of stone and roughly plastered. The ground floor houses a wine cellar, above which is a pressing room and living quarters used for occasional stays.
Pekolj's farmhouse is a two-room timber building with a cellar and pressing room, partly dug into the hillside, with the cellar section plastered. At the cellar entrance, the years 1778 and 1785 are inscribed on the interior.
Besides Lisec's highest peak (565 m), Lisec is also home to a hill 428 m above sea level, on which the Church of the Holy Cross stands. The church has stood on this site for 400 years longer than the first vines have been planted on Lisec, and today it is regarded as our "vintners' church."
Every year it hosts the hillside (vintners') procession and Mass, and at the end of the grape harvest, a thanksgiving Mass. The church belongs to the Parish of Dobrnič.
The church was first mentioned in 1526. It consists of a rectangular nave with fresco fragments from the early 15th and early 16th centuries, a short presbytery, a bell tower on the south side from the 17th century, and an entrance porch from the 19th century — evidence of major renovations over the centuries.
Inside, it also holds a fresco from 1832, depicting a man and a woman commending themselves to the church's patron saint. Based on this fresco and the expert research obtained, the Dobrnič Cultural and Tourism Society created a traditional regional costume, which is kept at the Dobrnič Cultural Centre.
The Church of the Holy Cross is reached by an unmarked dirt track, shown on the Lisec map.
Čepnica is a cave located to the left of the road, just before the first junction. Its passage length is 120 m, with a depth of 45 m.

The Lisec Winegrowers' Association of Dobrnič was founded in 2003. Today it has 200 members, and its activities extend beyond winegrowing to tourism, sport, and culture.
In 2018 we purchased a wine cottage, which we thoroughly renovated and expanded. It can now host up to approximately 50 pre-booked guests, whom we serve with platters of local cured meats from the surrounding villages, as well as a stew. Visitors can also taste wines made from grapes grown on Lisec hill.
In 2019 we carried out a development project titled "Healthy with Nature – Šmarnica," co-financed by the European Union through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. As part of the project, we acquired a distillation still, which we use to produce hydrosols and essential oils from herbs growing in this unspoiled natural environment. All these products can be purchased by visitors at the Liška zidanica — available items include lavender, chamomile, immortelle, and rosemary hydrosols, as well as lavender essential oil, among others.
On Lisec hill, about a third of the vineyards are still planted with the native "šmarnica" grape variety. On our own plot, alongside šmarnica, we also grow disease-tolerant varieties that do not require intensive chemical spraying. As a result, in addition to other wines, visitors to the Liška zidanica can also purchase organic wines made from šmarnica and tolerant varieties.
Almost every year we organize an outdoor painting event (art extempore), in which artists from the wider region take part. The resulting paintings are exhibited inside the Liška zidanica, where they can also be purchased.
In front of the Liška zidanica we have set up a spacious event area, as well as courts for pétanque, Russian skittles (a bowling game played with a ball on a rope), and šterbunk — all intended for group socializing and play. At the Liška zidanica we have also created a viewpoint, where the surrounding hills are labeled with their names.
Lisec is located in the Suha krajina region and boasts a long winegrowing tradition. It is one of the most recognizable vineyard hills of Suha krajina, stretching for about two kilometres with planted vineyards. The vineyard owners come from the surrounding local communities of Dobrnič, Knežja vas, Sela pri Šumberku, and Žužemberk, and in recent times also from further afield, as new owners have chosen to purchase properties with vineyards here.
The peak of Lisec rises 565 metres above sea level. A metal cross stands at the top, with an attached box containing a guestbook and a stamp. The trail to the summit is marked and suitable for children as well, while pleasant walks are also offered by the paths running between the vineyards, shown on the map.
Today, around a hundred people live on Lisec, either permanently or temporarily, while the remaining buildings serve as weekend cottages or for storing produce. The Lisec Winegrowers' Association of Dobrnič is active on the hill, and alongside its association activities, it also helps maintain the well-kept surroundings of the vineyard hill.
